Selecting Your Surgeon

Selecting your Surgeon

Most important step once you decide to go for a cosmetic plastic surgery abroad is to select the right surgeon. After all you are putting your life and limb in his hands. Qualifications, surgical facilities and rapport should be your top priorities.

- Since aesthetic plastic surgery is invasive in nature, it requires a highly trained and qualified plastic surgeon.

- Make sure that the prospective surgeon is qualified to perform the procedures you want. The surgeon you are considering should have adequate training and experience to perform an array of aesthetic plastic surgery procedures. You can start by asking the following questions to a potential surgeon.

- How many surgeries of the similar nature have you performed?

- How often do you perform this procedure?

- How many patients from abroad have you performed this surgery on?

- What have been the complications faced by your patients?

- When selecting a surgeon, proper research of surgical facility is very important. Reputable, qualified surgeons have accredited facilities.

- Even if the procedure you desire is to be performed in an outpatient clinic, make sure that your surgeon has access to hospital privileges. Since hospital committees examine the training of surgeons in a routine manner to determine whether they should be allowed to perform the procedures at that institution. Absence of hospital privileges to a surgeon should ring a warning bell.

- An accredited outpatient clinic is a valid indication of any surgeon's training since it means that it has been evaluated and determined to be acceptable by the authorities. Accreditation organizations certify only after thoroughly checking and validating the training of a surgeon.

- However, the most important of all aspects is the level of comfort you feel when discussing your problem with the surgeon and how you feel he perceives your goals. Unless you both agree on goals that are realistic and achievable, you will not be satisfied. Donít hesitate to ask following questions.

- Do you have a gallery of before-and-after photos of previous patients to show what kind of results I can hope from the procedures I am considering?

- May I talk with a few of your patients who underwent similar procedure?
