Medical Travel Guide - Safety Considerations

Safety Considerations

Even though aesthetic cosmetic surgery is optional the fact remains that it is real surgery in every sense equally wrought with risks and possible side effects as any other surgery. With medical tourism gaining popularity, and number of patients planning to travel outside their home countries for cosmetic plastic surgery, it is imperative that they review these important safety considerations.

1. Procedure: Is it appropriate for you?

2. Patient: Are you a good candidate for the procedure?

3. Surgeon: Is the surgeon you have chosen qualified and experienced in performing the procedure?

4. Surgical setting: Is it safe enough with trained personnel and have emergency procedures in place?

If you ensure all the four criteria are fulfilled, chances of your safety and the success of your aesthetic procedure are optimized.

Do Proper Research for Your Procedure

You are opting for surgery by choice rather than under any medical compulsion so make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure you desire to undergo. Also keep in mind the possible risks and side effects. Find out the required recovery time and precautions you need to take while recovering. Keep your expectations from the procedure realistic.

Properly Screen Your Surgeon

Choose your surgeon carefully as this one decision will greatly influence the outcome of your surgery. Monetary considerations should not be allowed to overshadow your choice. Following points be kept in mind while selecting the surgeon.

- His qualification and training

- Is he trained for the procedure you are considering?

- His experience in performing the procedure you are considering

- His record of safety and patient satisfaction

- Ethical practices

Screen the Surgical Setting

It is important to carefully research the surgical setting your surgeon uses as standards vary from country to country. Make sure that the hospital where your surgery will be performed is certified or accredited. It is best to talk to personally meet and talk to an old patient for a first hand information.
